Derbarl Yerrigan is the Whadjuk Noongar name for the Swan River, the defining geographical feature of my home town. For hundreds of thousands of years the waters and surronding wetlands have supported all sorts of life. For tens of thousands of years it’s provided for the local Indigenous people who would move through the area. For the past couple of hundred years it’s supported the european settlers who arrived and made this place their new home.
It’s got plenty of wisdom to share if you try and listen.
